Fail Proof Slime

While summer time means endless days of water, and outside fun...we do (yes even in Texas) have our rainy summer afternoons, or (especially in Texas) have some days just too hot to be outside...and as any mom knows, those days can drive ya crazy fast! We found this awesome slime recipe, and it kept the girls thoroughly entertained. Here is the quick and easy " how to", and at the bottom I provided a list of the pros and cons I found with it. This was also a great activity to work on measuring, counting, coloring mixing, following steps, and then we used the slime to make letters and numbers. Fun and educational is always a plus during the summer. Between steps 3 and 4 you can also add in glitter, or essential oils to take your slime up a notch. Lavender would be an awesome oil to incorporate for a nice soothing, calming addition to this sensory activity. Ingredients: 3 (4oz) Bottles of liquid glue ( we went with Elmer's glue but I would t

Worldly Woes for Christian Women

This post won't be a very popular one, and that is ok; the truth usually is not that popular... After attending my church's "All In " women's conference   in April, I have repeatedly been brought back to Isaiah chapter 3. Mary Kassian spoke on a segment at the conference entitled Sending out an S.O.S. In which she discussed how applicable this specific chapter and situation is to today's society. What I am discussing here is a mixture of her lecture, and my own understanding of the information. Specifically I want to touch on her portion entitled the " Woes for Women".   We are facing these very woes addressed in Isaiah today, and God is warning us what happens when we don't head His S.O.S for us. Ladies I feel now more than ever, we are at war for our womanhood. Not the "girl power" " I am alpha woman" garbage we are fed via media, and the world trends, but the true role of woman as God designed us. Female and male

Surviving Summer : Essential Oils

Summer is one of my favorite seasons! Grilling out, traveling, soaking up the sun and water; paired with slower paced schedules and lots of family time, what couldn't you love?! ( well besides maybe sunburns, mosquito bites, car rides with crazy kiddos and....) yes I know the summer comes with other pests BUT good news! I have some simple remedies for that.  We love our Young Living Essential Oils , and these are some of my favorite oils for summer. This list is pretty short and sweet, if you want more information or to purchase any oils, or the premium starter kit just refer to the information at the bottom of this post. Summer Oil Essentials: Lavender : ...kids off sleep schedule?... too much sun soaked up? ...stand a little too close to the campfire or grill? Have no fear Lavender oil is here!! ( it is also a great way to fancy up your lemonade), and the swiss army knife of oils! *Pro tip* we use a few drops of lavender mixed with coconut oil as a nice post sun rub d

Bacon, Egg and Cheese Muffins

If you are like me, the last thing you want to do this summer is slave away in a hot kitchen. While for us, summer means a break from the regular hussle, it does still come with its own form of busy. These bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast muffins are delicious, cheap, healthy, fast and easy (basically everything I hope for in a meal.) I make a double batch, wrap them in plastic wrap and toss in the freezer for an easy quick "grab and go" microwave friendly breakfast. Ingredients: makes 6 large muffins: 3 eggs 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese 1/4 cup of milk 6 pieces of your bacon of choice cooked (you can substitute sausage, ham or other meats as well) I used Turkey bacon veggies of your choice (I like bell peppers, tomatoes, or jalapenos ) 1 can of biscuits un cooked Combine the eggs, cheddar cheese, milk, and veggies in a mixing bowl. With a fork, (or whisk if you're a real cook....unlike me lol) beat the mixture until everything is pretty well mix

Snake Fight: attacks by mother nature

First off, I don't need PETA all over me...I don't hate on you for wanting to save the snakes so don't hate on me for wanting to skin them.  As you might have assumed I HATE snakes and lizards and am terrified of them as well. Having been bit twice in the last 6 months by a copperhead I feel I am entitled to that hatred. I don't mean jump and scream terrified... I mean throw up and cry, possible phobia! I HATE THEM. Well, the other evening as I was finishing my shower when I noticed one of those little inch/ two inch long clear little ghecko things run across my bathroom wall. I lost it. My first response was to run. Which is unusual because my normal flight/ fight reaction is fight however I just ran. Pantless...down my hallway. I dunno where I was going? Perhaps to Charlie's room to save the girls? Ya know, to save them from the big bad two inch godzilla lizard? I got to her door and realized I had ran and proceeded to run BACK to my bathroom, still...pantless

The Car Jacking : Fowl Play

We spend a lot of time at the car wash. Having two small children, we tend to always need to clean out the car! Crushed up cheerios, random glitter, and piles of bows seem to always make their way with other little odd bits into the floorboard, seats etc...and to keep some minimal sanity in my life, I go to the car wash more then your average joe.  We dropped Charlie off at school, and Cam and I decided to go do our weekly car detail duty. When we pulled up I noticed the amount of birds, and how loud they were. Now, I am already not a fan of the creepy little things. Birds have always freaked me out. Their feathered bodies potentially infested with lice perched on the reptile-ish little legs ...it is just creepy! After the events described below, I feel like my gut feeling about these guys was dead on. Things were fine and we were all just minding our business... until I opened the passenger door. I guess the goldfish were just too much temptation for one of these feathered fri

Never say never.... things I swore my kids wouldn't do...

Five years. Today marks five whole, wild, funny, sad, happy crazy years of being a mom. While that is not substantial time in the eyes of some, I feel like it makes me pretty well seasoned. Three of those five years, I have been a mom to two sassy girls. I was looking back on some journal entries from before I had my first daughter, and was reflecting on how different reality is from the fantasy world we dream up before we actually become a parent. Below is a list of just a few items "pre-mom" Amber said her child would never do, but that since having kids my mind has changed on. 1."My kid will never sleep with me": I did pretty good at first, but then ....well I got tired, and she went from the bassinet , to the bed and she stayed in the bed for almost two years. Go ahead gasp, judge me whatever, but honestly I loved those quiet sweet moments watching her sleep, smelling her fresh from the bath little baby skin, feeling her little body snuggle mine. Somet
