Surviving Summer : Essential Oils

Summer is one of my favorite seasons! Grilling out, traveling, soaking up the sun and water; paired with slower paced schedules and lots of family time, what couldn't you love?! ( well besides maybe sunburns, mosquito bites, car rides with crazy kiddos and....) yes I know the summer comes with other pests BUT good news! I have some simple remedies for that.

We love our Young Living Essential Oils, and these are some of my favorite oils for summer. This list is pretty short and sweet, if you want more information or to purchase any oils, or the premium starter kit just refer to the information at the bottom of this post.

Summer Oil Essentials:

Lavender: ...kids off sleep schedule?... too much sun soaked up? ...stand a little too close to the campfire or grill? Have no fear Lavender oil is here!! ( it is also a great way to fancy up your lemonade), and the swiss army knife of oils!
*Pro tip* we use a few drops of lavender mixed with coconut oil as a nice post sun rub down....
we use lavender on the bottoms of little feetsies (sometimes I pair it with peace and calming) to help us conquer nap time, and shake the bedtime crazies, to stay nice and rested for all of our fun summer adventures.

Stress Away: Let's face it we love our kids, but extended time under one roof can make even the most well prepared pinterest mom frazzled. Diffuse it, bathe in it, wear it ....however you like to take your oils this one is sure to bring about a little relaxation and sanity to the chaos that can be summer.
*Pro tip:* I use this in my car diffuser (or peace and calming) to insure summer road trips don't drive us all insane, and remain enjoyable! My personal favorite combo is Lime and Stress away for the car diffuser! We still end up with some Griswald style adventures but, this way nobody (husband included) wants to jump out of the moving vehicle.

Peppermint/Digize: For all of my boat loving, theme park visiting, jet setting adventure lovers this is the oil for you! No more fish out of water tummy problems, or cleaning kid's puke from the back seat. Digize is also an oil that goes to all of the food trucks, vacation restaurants, road trip gas station snacks etc. with us to make sure our stomachs don't ruin our fun times.

Citronella: Keep the little blood suckers of summer away, with a few drops a day! I prefer the oils for our pest needs because having a daughter with asthma means the harsh bug sprays and chemicals aren't user friendly for us (mix that with the other child that has super sensitive skin and we just can't use the chemical infused traditional mosquito sprays.)
*pro tip* two of my favorite bug spray recipes are: ( 12 drops lavender, 15 drops lemongrass, 15 drops citronella, 15 drops melaleuca/or thieves, 14 ounce witch hazel) and the other is (15 drops of purification, 15 drops of thieves, 4 oz witch hazel , 4 oz distilled water) I store the mixtures in an easy to grab, and easy to take along Amber glass spray bottle.

These are obviously just a few of the oils we use all summer, but these are the ones I tend to grab most, and make sure to pack when we go somewhere. I hope you all enjoy your break from the everyday hussle and have a fabulous summer! Oil on, and make your own adventure this summer, AND DON'T FORGET TO PACK YOUR OILS!

Fail Proof Slime

While summer time means endless days of water, and outside fun...we do (yes even in Texas) have our rainy summer afternoons, or (especially in Texas) have some days just too hot to be outside...and as any mom knows, those days can drive ya crazy fast! We found this awesome slime recipe, and it kept the girls thoroughly entertained. Here is the quick and easy " how to", and at the bottom I provided a list of the pros and cons I found with it. This was also a great activity to work on measuring, counting, coloring mixing, following steps, and then we used the slime to make letters and numbers. Fun and educational is always a plus during the summer. Between steps 3 and 4 you can also add in glitter, or essential oils to take your slime up a notch. Lavender would be an awesome oil to incorporate for a nice soothing, calming addition to this sensory activity. Ingredients: 3 (4oz) Bottles of liquid glue ( we went with Elmer's glue but I would t
